Peace It Together Community Center Screen Shots
Comments: The Peace It Together Community Center Web site provides extensive local and national resources for teachers, students, parents and youth service providers and links to the best violence prevention resources on the Internet, an Ask-the-Expert section, live teen chat, discussion group, a comic strip featuring teen characters, an art gallery of youth works, and a Web Peace-It 'Zine created by and for youth.

Comments: The Mari Scenarios are a series of comic strips dealing with real-life issues and challenges. Teens scroll through the comic strips and then help Mari make wise decisions at the end by e-mailing their thoughts to Mari. I worked with several teen interns on the Scenarios, Priscilla Purvis, a peer leader, wrote the copy in teen language and Vaughn Butler, a talented young graphic designer, did the illustrations.

Comments: Mari's Room is a teen-only space loaded with teen resources: action steps, national and local hotlines, youth service organizations (Boston, Lowell and Springfield, MA) and links to the Peace-It 'Zine, Peace-It Art Gallery and the Mari Scenarios.

Comments: The Peace-It Art Gallery features a variety of works done by the youths from Artists for Humanity, a youth art cooperative in Boston, with a special slide show of their works. Features include "Meet the Artist" as well as new exhibits like Hands Together for Peace, an on-line nail art exhibition with messages of peace. Interested teens contributed their own works (believe me - the nail art exhibit was very popular!)
Comments: This is from the Peace-It Gallery slide show. Youths submitted works with themes of community, family, peace, education and their dreams and aspirations.

Comments: The Peace-It 'Zine was the most visited area of the site. I still get submissions of poetry (mostly) on issues of importance to teens. Some of the themes of the poems are: AIDS, shootings, lost loves, hate crimes, on being gay, and one that I particulary liked instructions to teen fathers from a teen mother on how to change a diaper. The 'Zine also includes Reflections and Advice for and by teens.

Comments: Parents & Teachers Together helps foster partnerships between home, school and community organizations and businesses in the effort to combat violence in our schools and communities. Resources include links to the curriculum for each program in the live, television series, and local and national violence prevention resources in English and in Spanish.

Comments: Let's Talk is an on-line community bulletin board that allows those concerned about teen violence to share their ideas, build coalitions and ask for advice and resources.
