What to Do:
We
need your help to learn about the ancient vessels we just
excavated.
1.
Below are the pottery shards from two different ancient vessels.
Click on each piece to clean off the dirt and rock.
2.
Click and drag each piece to put your vessel together.
3.
Click on the "Give me a clue!" button to get
a peak at the assembled vessel. Good luck. This takes some concentration,
but I know you can do it!
Vessel # 1
Vessel # 2
4.
To learn about these vessels, read about similar artifacts in the
archaeologist's log.
What clues does this information give you about your discovery?
5.
Use the information from the archaeologist's
log to help analyze your vessel's design, form and possible
use. Do the designs on your vessel look similar to the designs in
the sketches? Does the shape of your vessel suggest its use? Does
it have handles or a spout?
HINT:
Thin, finely made pottery bowls might have been used for ceremonies.
Rough, simple bowls might have been used for cooking. The object's
shape tells us what the vessel was most likely used for. A cup with
handles, for example, was probably used as a drinking vessel or
container. Archaelolgists sometimes find a bonus: designs painted
on pottery that show scenes from daily life long ago!
